Two days ago I was walking toward the grocery, yes quite a trivial activity, and listening to music. One of my favorite band was playing a song called "Die jugend marschiert", which is german for "the youth marches". When I got home I looked up the lyrics, yes I had to i'm french.. I sometimes have problem understanding lyrics right of the bat. Anyway.. I looked up the lyrics and it talked about a game a played a few years back called "America's army" It's a first shooter based on being a soldier in the US army. I knew at that time that the game probably was designed to be a recruitment effort by the army. I was younger and probably much stupider back then. But in the recent years my interest were broaden and I read, listen and well got to know WWII much better. All that to say... are we much different? I mean Hitler had it's Hitler's youth movement.. he brainwased kids to become soldiers... and in the end when Berlin was falling.. those kids were a part of the defence of Berlin... 12-14 years old handling MG42.. submachine guns... PaK-40 anti-tank guns ... defending the Reich. Is the US so different? Are are they just a bit more subtle in their approach? Their are no TV propaganda has bright and shinny as the German had at that time.. yet they did not have the means we have today. But as I see this game now... it look just like a Hilter's youth.. but it's called America's Army and it enlist kids in fighting forces.. show them to operate machine gun, sub machine gun, grenades, and rocket launchers. I agreee, they don't learn to maintain them... clean them... but they learn to use them.. get a bit desensitized to killing. If the US get in a 3rd world war... and they need more soldier... will they refrain from using this pool of trained soldier.. at least partly trained? I hope they won't... but I can't promise it to you.
